PM Shehbaz Sharif Pledges to Eradicate Hepatitis-C in Pakistan

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed a strong commitment to eliminating Hepatitis-C from Pakistan. Addressing an event in Islamabad to celebrate the successful conclusion of the National Hepatitis-C Elimination Program’s pilot project in Gilgit-Baltistan, he emphasized the urgency of taking effective measures to control the disease.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister praised the efforts of those involved in the Gilgit-Baltistan pilot project and expressed confidence that this initiative would lead to the eradication of the disease from the region. He highlighted the collaboration between federal and provincial governments to promote and expand the National Hepatitis C Elimination Program.

Shehbaz Sharif also mentioned the swift progress in establishing the Jinnah Medical Center in the federal capital, with its planning phase already completed.

During the event, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal described the National Hepatitis C Elimination Program as a flagship health sector project. He expressed confidence that the disease will be eradicated before the current government’s term ends, emphasizing that public awareness is a crucial element of the initiative and expressing hope for its success with stakeholder cooperation.

Minister for National Health Services Mustafa Kamal assured that he would meet the Prime Minister’s expectations in tackling health-related issues.
