PM Shehbaz Sharif Set to Address the United Nations General Assembly

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to address the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 27, where he will represent Pakistan’s stance on various global issues.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Prime Minister Sharif departed for New York this past Saturday, expressing anticipation for a week filled with significant diplomatic engagements. On his social media platform X, Sharif highlighted his focus on discussions around peace, development, climate action, and the advancement of Pakistan’s interests on the global stage.

The Foreign Office, in a statement released Sunday, outlined that during his UNGA speech, Sharif will emphasize the need to resolve long-standing issues listed on the UN Security Council’s agenda, including the situations in Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine. “The UN General Assembly’s High-Level segment offers a crucial platform for Pakistan to highlight its perspectives on important issues of regional and international importance. He will highlight Pakistan’s priority to place people at the heart of the domestic and global development agenda,” the statement detailed.

Furthermore, the prime minister is set to participate in high-level meetings alongside the UNGA, including a session on the existential threat posed by sea-level rise and the UN Security Council’s Open Debate on “Leadership for Peace.”
