Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the importance of adhering to the UN Charter and implementing its resolutions and international treaties to achieve sustainable global peace. He conveyed these views during a phone conversation with Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, the candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary-General and the Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister highlighted the necessity of enhancing international cooperation to progress the global development agenda. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and expressed support for the crucial role of the United Nations in maintaining global peace and security.
Rodrigues-Birkett acknowledged Pakistan’s significant contributions to the United Nations. She expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s call and appreciated his leadership efforts towards regional peace and stability.
Following the conversation, Prime Minister Sharif took to social media platform X to reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for a stronger and more effective United Nations. He emphasized the importance of multilateralism in addressing current global challenges and noted his productive discussion with Rodrigues-Birkett.
In his post, Sharif also expressed gratitude for Rodrigues-Birkett’s recognition of Pakistan’s efforts at the UN and its role in promoting regional stability.
