Poland-Pakistan Trade Surpasses $920 Million, Bolstered by GSP Plus Agreement

Karachi, Trade volume between Poland and Pakistan has reached over $920 million, largely driven by Pakistan’s exports, which were facilitated by a duty-free access agreement. The Polish Ambassador, Maciej Pisarski, shared these figures during a visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), emphasizing the vast potential for further economic cooperation between the two nations.

According to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ambassador Pisarski, leading a high-level Polish trade delegation, highlighted the importance of in-person business interactions for fostering future partnerships. The trade volume detailed included $800 million in Pakistani exports to Poland, thanks to the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Plus arrangement, while Polish exports to Pakistan were valued at $128 million last year.

During the event, Ambassador Pisarski recalled historical ties, noting Karachi’s significant role in Polish history and the ongoing people-to-people connections that have been instrumental since before the formal establishment of diplomatic relations 62 years ago. He underscored Poland’s economic growth and its status as the sixth-largest economy in the European Union, with a national economy growing by 900 percent since 1990.

KCCI President Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh responded by pointing out the untapped potential in the relationship, advocating for expanded trade and investment, particularly in sectors like textiles, agriculture, and tourism. Sheikh suggested that Polish firms consider investing in Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and participate in various trade events to forge deeper business ties.

The discussions also covered the challenges Pakistani exporters face, such as inspection delays and the need for better technical resources, proposing solutions like third-party laboratory evaluations and enhanced government cooperation to address pesticide-related concerns.

The visit is part of a broader effort to strengthen bilateral relations through economic and cultural exchanges, aiming to fully capitalize on the mutual benefits of a closer partnership between Poland and Pakistan.
