Polio Eradication Efforts Intensified in Pakistan with New Vaccination Strategy

Islamabad: The Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication, Ayesha Raza Farooq, has announced significant progress in the national polio vaccination campaign, which aims to immunize over 33 million children across 115 districts.

According to Press Information Department, a detailed review of the Polio Programme led to the development of a robust eradication strategy in collaboration with federal and provincial governments. This strategy includes three high-quality vaccination campaigns set for September, October, and December, targeting areas where the polio virus has been detected in environmental samples from 66 districts.

“The success of the September campaign is crucial to our efforts,” stated Farooq, emphasizing the urgency of the campaigns. She reassured that any children not reached in the ongoing campaign would be covered in the next three days. With additional campaigns planned for the colder months, the strategy aims to significantly curb the spread of the virus using scientifically driven approaches.
