Population Council Delegation Engages with Pakistan’s Finance Minister on Population Challenges

Islamabad: A delegation from the Population Council, led by President Dr. Rana Hajjeh, met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, to discuss the pressing issues related to population growth and demographic changes and their effects on the country’s economic development. The meeting, held at the Finance Division, included participation from Dr. Zeba Sathar, Country Director of the Population Council, and senior finance ministry officials.

According to Press Information Department, Minister Aurangzeb highlighted the challenges that rapid population growth poses to achieving Pakistan’s development goals. He underscored the importance of adopting a sustained, evidence-based strategy to comprehend and address these population dynamics. He advocated for embedding these dynamics into planning across critical sectors such as health, education, employment, urbanization, and the environment to harness the potential for socio-economic development.

Dr. Hajjeh and Dr. Sathar shared insights into the Population Council’s ongoing research and initiatives focused on these issues.
