PPAF Hosts High-Level Session to Boost Women’s Empowerment in Pakistan

Islamabad: The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) held a consultative session titled “Accelerating Women’s Rights and Empowerment” in Islamabad, bringing together women parliamentarians and other stakeholders to discuss strategies for gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. The meeting focused on PPAF’s Poverty Graduation approach as a means to advance these goals.

According to a statement by Press Information Department, the session featured prominent figures such as Ms. Wajiha Qamar, Parliamentary Secretary for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives. Ms. Qamar lauded PPAF’s commitment to poverty alleviation and stressed the importance of women’s economic empowerment for sustainable development in Pakistan.

Dr. Shazia Sobia Soomro, another Member of the National Assembly, highlighted the importance of access to finance for grassroots women, stating that financial resources are crucial for creating lasting change.

Ms. Farah Naz Akbar, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, praised PPAF’s efforts in promoting education for women and girls, particularly in underserved areas. She emphasized the transformative impact of PPAF’s programs in removing barriers to education.

Nadir Gul, CEO of PPAF, reiterated the organization’s commitment to reducing poverty and inequality through community-driven solutions. He emphasized the role of the Poverty Graduation approach in equipping women and families with necessary resources for community upliftment.

The session concluded with discussions on scaling up interventions, enhancing coordination among ministries, and fostering partnerships to support women’s economic participation. Participants shared insights on accelerating women’s rights and empowerment in Pakistan, reaffirming their commitment to a more inclusive future.
