President Mamnoon Hussain travelled from Metro Bus

Islamabad, July 16, 2015 (PPI-OT):President Mamnoon Hussain left the citizens of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in utter surprise on Thursday by travelling on the newly launched Metro Bus without any prior notice and protocol. The President reached the Secretariat Terminal of Metro Bus in Islamabad and boarded a bus after purchasing the ticket himself from the ticket counter.

The passengers of Metro Bus got amazed by seeing the President amongst them and welcomed him by clapping and raising slogans. Incharge of Metro Bus project, Hanif Abbasi also accompanied the President. The President mingled with the passengers and asked them various questions about the Metro Bus facility. The President also shook hands with the passengers and staff of the Metro Bus.

During the journey the President talked with the passengers frankly. The passengers appreciated the Metro Bus facility and demanded that the timings of Metro Bus should be extended. The President assured the passengers that in this respect he would issue instructions to the concerned authorities.

The President while talking to passengers said that the present government was working on various mega projects for the welfare of masses and Metro Bus system was one these important projects. The President said as he personally wanted to know about this facility provided to the citizens of the twin cities, he decided to travel on the Metro Bus.

“With this experience, I am happy to know that the people are getting the transport facility of international standards”, he said and noted with happiness that the government had decided to launch the Metro Bus facility to other big cities as well. The President said the Metro Bus facility of international standards was not only economical, but it also helps provide ease in other areas, enhances people’s working capabilities and opportunities.

The President was informed that after the launch of Metro Bus facility, the number of patients visiting the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has increased by 500 daily. Before this, the common people did not have easy access to PIMS. The President hoped that the government would continue to initiate such welfare-oriented projects. The President during the course of his journey boarded on three buses.
