Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Outlines Digital Transformation Goals for Pakistan

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met today with a four-member delegation from Google, led by Scott Beaumont, President of the Asia-Pacific region, discussing initiatives to enhance Pakistan’s digital economy. The meeting emphasized the government’s commitment to fully digitizing the nation’s economy and harnessing the potential of technological advancements.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif expressed his appreciation for Google’s ongoing efforts, which have already improved the lives of thousands of Pakistanis. He detailed the government’s ambitious plans to boost IT exports to 25 billion dollars within the next five years, highlighting allocated funds for youth training, IT infrastructure enhancements, and regulatory improvements.

The Prime Minister also noted Google’s significant role in facilitating nearly one million job opportunities for Pakistani youth in 2023, showcasing both the country’s digital potential and Google’s investment in its future. On his part, Scott Beaumont announced Google’s plans to expand its investment in Pakistan, including the manufacturing of 500,000 Chromebooks locally by 2026, which is expected to transform the IT industry significantly.
