Riyadh: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, accompanied by an arms embargo on Israel and the lifting of the blockade against Gaza to ensure the prompt delivery of essential supplies such as food, water, electricity, and medical aid.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in his address to the Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of pursuing the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly’s emergency special session resolution 10/24, which aligns with a historic advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice. He also advocated for a comprehensive review of Israel’s membership in the United Nations.
Highlighting the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the Prime Minister described the situation as being beyond imagination, with devastated homes, lost lives, and shattered families. He questioned how long the global community would ignore hospitals being destroyed and mothers grieving over their deceased infants. He noted that these actions have been termed as genocide by both media and the International Court of Justice, pointing out that moral codes are being violated daily.
The Prime Minister criticized the world’s inaction, which he stated has emboldened Israel, leading to continued violence and destruction. He condemned the supply of sophisticated weapons to Israel, viewing it as a form of unconditional support. He stressed that international humanitarian laws, designed to protect the vulnerable, are being disregarded, and called for humanity to respond as Gaza suffers.
Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Palestinian cause, advocating for an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, based on pre-1967 borders. He also condemned Israel’s recent military actions against Iran and Lebanon, labeling them as violations of sovereignty that could lead to broader conflict.
The Prime Minister emphasized the responsibility of the Muslim Ummah to support the Palestinian people, urging a halt to what he described as systematic genocide and aggression. He reiterated these points in his remarks at the Joint Arab Islamic Summit and on his X account, highlighting the collective resolve of the Muslim world to support Palestinians in their struggle against Israeli occupation and aggression.
