Privatization of PIA Nearing Completion, Says Minister Abdul Aleem Khan

Lahore: Minister for Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan announced today that the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is progressing rapidly and is expected to conclude shortly. This move is part of broader efforts by the government to enhance foreign investment and streamline national enterprises.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a media interaction, Minister Khan emphasized the government’s commitment to privatizing in the national interest, insisting that significant state assets, including PIA, will not be sold off cheaply. He acknowledged the financial strain PIA has imposed on the country and reaffirmed the methodical approach being taken to privatize it along with other institutions.

The minister also highlighted that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has shown interest in acquiring PIA, suggesting that collaboration among the provincial governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh in managing the airline could lead to positive outcomes. Beyond the aviation sector, Khan revealed the National Highway Authority’s financial success under his leadership, with a record profit of 50 billion rupees this past year.

Khan also shared personal notes on his tenure, stating that he has eschewed the use of official vehicles and covered his own expenses for international duties, showcasing his commitment to reducing governmental expenditure.
