Islamabad: Progress continues on the M-13 Kharian to Rawalpindi Motorway project under the effective institutional support of the Special Investment Facilitation Council. The motorway is being upgraded to a 117.2-kilometer, six-lane road, aiming to provide a strategic, fast, and safe alternative to the existing M-2 Motorway.
According to Radio Pakistan, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif highlighted the significant role played by the Special Investment Facilitation Council in the revival of the stalled M-12 Sialkot-Kharian Motorway project. Additionally, the M-11 Lahore-Sialkot Motorway is being expanded from four lanes to six lanes through the council’s efforts.
Upon completion of the M-11, M-12, and M-13 corridors, it is anticipated that fifty to sixty percent of the traffic between Lahore and Rawalpindi will shift from the M-2 to the new route. This corridor aims to strengthen connectivity and boost trade activities between major regions such as Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Sialkot, Afghanistan, China, and Central Asia.
The project also includes the construction of three tunnels in Kallar Kahar, which are expected to help reduce the number of accidents in the area.
