Protest against Karachi Water and Sewerage Board by the industries

Karachi, July 19, 2016 (PPI-OT):The Industries of SITE Karachi, supported by all the Industrial and Trade Organizations, held a protest sit in at the Karachi Press club at 5:00 pm. A large number of industrialists and the workers present at the press club raised black flags and chanted slogans against the stoppage of water to the industries by the KW and SB. Mr Siraj Kassam Teli accompanied by Mr Zubair Motiwala, Mr Younus Bashir, Mr Junaid Makda, Mr Javed Bilwani and large numbers of others, had held a protest in front of CM House yesterday.

Later they held a meeting with the CM and Minister Local Government Mr Jam Shoro and MD KW and SB, Mr Misbahuddin Farid. Mr Siraj Kassam Teli and other Industrialists apprised the CM and the Minister about illegal destruction of private water lines which were the only major source of water supply to the SITE Industries. Whereas, the supply from KW and SB is merely 1-2 MGD only. Besides, CM was also told about the false accusations against the industrialists of their connivance with the water theft.

The CM ordered the Minister and the MD KW and SB to provide sufficient water to the SITE Industry without fail. Against the bare minimum requirement of 42 MGD water, MD KW and SB promised to provide only 32 MGD water to the SITE industry. But contrary to the decision by the CM, not a single drop of water has been provided to the SITE Industry. As a result of non-availability of water the entire Industry of SITE has gone out of work.

Hence, today again a protest demonstration was held in front of Karachi Press Club where Mr Siraj Kassam Teli addressed the media. He said that the alarming situation of water crisis will not only cause colossal loss to the National Revenue and GDP but will also put millions of workers out of job. The entire Industrial community strongly condemns this malicious victimization of the most productive segment of the society and demands immediate provision of due share of water to the SITE Industry.
