Provincial Cabinet Meeting in Quetta Finalizes Vice Chancellors’ Appointments and Approves Key Legislation

Quetta: The provincial cabinet of Balochistan, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, has finalized the appointment recommendations for vice chancellors at two universities and approved significant new legislation aimed at improving governance and public welfare. The meeting, marked by consensus on various issues, also addressed employment transitions for federal levies employees and the renewal of the Balochistan Revenue Authority’s advisory council.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the cabinet meeting resolved to conduct interviews for the vice chancellor position at Lasbela University. A novel provision was also approved, giving federal levies employees the option to join the provincial levies and allowing those nearing retirement to nominate a family member for employment. This move is seen as a step to ensure job security for the families of government employees.

The meeting further saw the passage of the Balochistan Prosecution Act 2024, a key piece of legislation expected to enhance the legal and administrative framework of the province. Changes to the advisory council of the Balochistan Revenue Authority were also sanctioned, signaling a revamp in revenue management and advisory strategies.

Chief Minister Bugti emphasized the cabinet’s role in addressing public issues and improving life quality through effective governance. He highlighted the representation of women in the cabinet, noting it as a sign of progressive governance, despite the challenges posed by constitutional requirements. The cabinet boasts three women members, reflecting a commitment to inclusive governance.

Additionally, Bugti appreciated the contributions of women in administrative roles across five districts in Balochistan, acknowledging their exemplary service. He also outlined the government’s strides in education and health, asserting that these sectors have witnessed revolutionary changes, directly benefiting the people of Balochistan.

The decisions made in this cabinet meeting reflect a broader agenda of the Balochistan government to enhance governance, support employees, and foster a more inclusive administrative environment.
