PTA and DeafTawk Partner to Enhance Public Service Accessibility for Hearing Impaired

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has entered into a memorandum of understanding with DeafTawk to significantly enhance accessibility for individuals with hearing impairments across public services in Pakistan.

According to Radio Pakistan, this collaboration will see DeafTawk introduce its ‘DeafTawk Plus’ service, which will offer online sign language interpretation for deaf visitors at PTA offices. In a bid to further streamline communication, the PTA will incorporate AI-driven tools capable of converting text to sign language and speech to sign language across its digital platforms. Furthermore, the agreement includes conducting annual accessibility audits to ensure that these services are continuously improved and adapted to the needs of users.

This strategic initiative seeks to address the communication barriers encountered by more than ten million deaf individuals residing in Pakistan. By doing so, it aims to foster an equitable and inclusive society where public services are accessible to all, regardless of hearing ability.
