PTCL Group and GSMA Collaborate to Enhance API Innovation

Islamabad: PTCL Group and GSMA have entered into a long-term Memorandum of Understanding at GITEX Global 2025 to advance application programming interfaces (APIs) through the GSMA Open Gateway initiative. This collaboration aims to facilitate seamless integration of services with mobile networks, streamlining the adoption of digital services and fostering rapid innovation.

The PTCL Group has developed and certified two APIs, ‘Send OTP’ and ‘Validate OTP’, based on the latest CAMARA standard 1.0.0. These APIs are designed to provide standardized and secure services for enterprises and telecom operators. By participating in the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, PTCL Group is positioning itself alongside global leaders in digital ecosystems.

These newly certified APIs are expected to enhance user authentication and reduce fraud risks, thereby improving customer experiences. The initiative allows businesses to easily incorporate mobile network capabilities into their platforms, leveraging global security frameworks for reliability.

Jafar Khalid, Group Chief Technology and Information Officer at PTCL and Ufone 4G, highlighted the significance of this achievement. He stated that adopting the CAMARA standard simplifies technology operations, enhances agility, and accelerates time-to-market, while improving service quality. Khalid emphasized that this foundation will enable deeper collaboration with developers, startups, and enterprises, unlocking new business models and driving growth in the digital ecosystem.

Jawad Abbassi, Head of MENA at GSMA, expressed enthusiasm about PTCL Group joining the GSMA Open Gateway initiative. He noted that this partnership is pivotal in accelerating the digital ecosystem in Pakistan and the broader region. By providing access to network capabilities through common APIs, PTCL Group is promoting innovation and enabling new digital services at scale.

In an effort to shape the future of digital services, PTCL Group continues to combine global collaboration with local expertise, playing a significant role in the industry transformation for enterprises and consumers alike.
