Punjab Government Intensifies Efforts to Combat Environmental Pollution

Islamabad: Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced that the provincial government is vigorously pursuing a strategy to mitigate environmental pollution and improve the overall Air Quality Index across the province. She made these remarks while virtually addressing the “Breathe Pakistan Climate Change Conference” held in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, the minister highlighted several initiatives, including the introduction of fifteen hundred electric buses in Punjab. She emphasized the government’s commitment by declaring the province a No-plastic zone, with the Environmental Protection Agency actively conducting surveillance to enforce this ban.

Marriyum Aurangzeb also mentioned that eighty percent of the industry in Punjab has incorporated environmental control systems within their industrial units. Furthermore, she noted the launch of a Super Seeder Subsidy program, valued at five point six billion rupees, as part of the smog mitigation and air quality improvement efforts.

The minister elaborated on the agriculture department’s role in discouraging stubble burning by promoting the use of super seeder machines among the farming community. Additionally, she pointed out that environmental education is being integrated into the curriculum to raise public awareness about the importance of a clean environment and the impacts of climate change.
