Punjab Launches Initiative to Promote Livestock Breeds

Islamabad: The Punjab government has launched an initiative aimed at preserving and promoting indigenous livestock breeds, such as the Sahiwal cow and the Nili Ravi buffalo. This effort seeks to sustain the genetic diversity and productivity of local breeds which are integral to the region’s agricultural economy.

According to Radio Pakistan, Director of the Punjab Livestock Department Dr. Khaliq Shafee stated that the programme is being executed by several key institutions. The Buffalo Research Institute in Pattoki, the Livestock Production Research Institute Bahadurnagar Okara, and the Research Centre for Conservation of Indigenous Breeds in Jhang are all involved in carrying out this significant initiative. These centers will focus on research and development activities that support the conservation and enhancement of these important livestock breeds.
