Punjab Police Arrests Notorious Fugitive Extradited from Saudi Arabia After Six-Year Hunt

Gujranwala: Under the leadership of Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar, the Punjab Police have escalated efforts to apprehend proclaimed offenders and fugitives, culminating in the recent arrest of a dangerous fugitive extradited from Saudi Arabia. The arrest was carried out by the Punjab Police Special Operations Cell, which successfully captured the criminal who had been on the run for six years.

According to Punjab Police, Ghulam Abbas, the fugitive, had been wanted since 2018 by the Gujranwala Police for his involvement in a kidnapping of a woman and an attempted murder case. The Special Operations Cell secured an Interpol Red Notice for Abbas and coordinated closely with Saudi police to facilitate his capture. Following his arrest, Saudi authorities deported Abbas to Pakistan, where he was taken into custody by the Special Operations Cell at the airport.

The spokesperson for Punjab Police revealed that with the arrest of Abbas, the total number of fugitives apprehended from abroad this year has risen to 70. IG Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, praised the Regional Police Officer (RPO) and the City Police Officer (CPO) of Gujranwala for their roles in the successful extradition. Dr. Anwar has instructed that legal proceedings against Abbas be expedited to ensure he faces justice promptly. Furthermore, he emphasized the need to continue the intensified crackdown on other fugitives involved in serious crimes, urging more arrests and extraditions in collaboration with Interpol and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
