Punjab Workers Welfare Fund Halts Recruitment of Secondary School Teachers Amid Legal Proceedings

Lahore: The Punjab Workers Welfare Fund, under the Labour and Human Resource Department, has paused its recruitment process for various secondary school teacher positions due to ongoing legal proceedings.

According to Public Service Commission Punjab, “the PPSC had initially advertised multiple teaching posts across different districts. These included positions for SST (IT), SST (Biology), SST (Math), SST (Physics), SST (Chemistry), SST (Urdu), and SST (English) with a total of 210 vacancies. However, the recruitment has been suspended as the matter is currently under adjudication in the Honorable Lahore High Court. The legal issues might escalate to the Apex Supreme Court of Pakistan, leading to further delays.”

The PPSC has decided that the application fees already paid by candidates will remain valid for one year, allowing applicants to be considered for future vacancies. This policy aims to mitigate the inconvenience caused to applicants due to the unforeseen legal challenges.

The dispute arose shortly after the advertisements for these positions were published, leading to an official requisition return on September 2, 2024. The PPSC has taken this step to ensure compliance with legal protocols and maintain transparency in its recruitment processes while the court deliberates on the issue.

This halt affects hundreds of prospective teaching candidates and disrupts the staffing plans of the Punjab Workers Welfare Fund’s educational institutions across the province. The final decision by the court will determine the future course of action regarding these recruitment efforts.
