Quetta Sets New Price Controls for Essential Goods and Monitors Construction Quality

Quetta: In a recent move to regulate market prices and ensure the affordability of daily essentials, the Deputy Commissioner Quetta and Chairman of the Price Control Committee announced new fixed rates for a variety of consumer items across the city, its suburbs, and the cantonment area. This initiative aims to prevent price gouging and stabilize the cost of living for local residents.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the revised price list includes key staples such as flour, ghee, cooking oil, and various types of rice and pulses. For instance, a 20 kg bag of flour is now priced at Rs 1770 at the mill and Rs 1800 at retail outlets. Prices for other essential items like beef, mutton, and dairy products have also been standardized to protect consumers from fluctuating market rates.

Additionally, the local government has taken strict measures to ensure compliance among vendors. Shops are required to conspicuously display the new price list and sell goods at the stipulated rates. Failure to comply will result in legal action, underscoring the government’s commitment to enforcing these regulations.

In a related oversight effort, Assistant Commissioner Mir Jawad Ahmad Zahri conducted a thorough inspection of a government high school development project in Gwadar 2, following complaints about the use of sub-standard construction materials. The inspection revealed that the contractor had indeed used inferior sea sand, prompting immediate orders to replace it with quality materials to ensure the project’s durability and safety.

The dual focus on stabilizing market prices and maintaining construction standards reflects the government’s proactive approach to governance and its dedication to improving public services and infrastructure within the region.
