Rana Tanveer Stresses Wheat Yield Boost for Food Security

Islamabad: Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasizes that improving wheat yields is crucial for Pakistan’s agricultural growth. Wheat, being the staple crop and the backbone of the country’s food system, plays a vital role in the national economy.

According to Radio Pakistan, Rana Tanveer Hussain chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad with Dr. Sajid Ali, the Country Representative of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) in Pakistan. The meeting reviewed the ongoing partnership between Pakistan and CIMMYT and explored innovative strategies to enhance wheat productivity and ensure food and nutritional security.

The Minister highlighted that adopting advanced varieties and innovative practices will boost per-acre productivity and enhance farmer incomes. This approach aims to reduce dependence on imports and contribute to the sustainability of Pakistan’s agriculture sector. He reaffirmed the government’s support for CIMMYT’s efforts in Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of this partnership in achieving food self-sufficiency and better nutrition for the population.
