Replica of Iconic ‘Fasting Buddha’ Unveiled at National Museum of Cambodia

Phnom penh: An impressive ceremony was held today at the National Museum of Cambodia to mark the official handover and unveiling of a replica of the iconic ‘Fasting Buddha’ from the Gandhara civilization, a gift from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Ambassador of Pakistan Zaheeruddin Babar Thaheem presented the revered artifact to Minister of Culture and Fine Arts of the Kingdom of Cambodia Phoeurng Sackona.

According to Radio Pakistan, Phoeurng Sackona characterized the gift as a powerful symbol of shared heritage, friendship, and faith, which elegantly links Cambodia’s profound Buddhist traditions with the ancient Gandhara civilization of Pakistan. She remarked that this act of cultural exchange reflects the true spirit of diplomacy, where friendship is nurtured not only through political and economic cooperation but also through the sharing of cultural values, spiritual traditions, and human aspirations.

Similarly, Ambassador Thaheem highlighted the profound significance of the sculpture. He noted that this exquisite work of art reflects the rich tapestry of a shared Buddhist heritage and symbolizes the enduring bonds of friendship and goodwill between the peoples of Pakistan and Cambodia. He emphasized that the Fasting Buddha represents a profound journey of self-discovery and enlightenment, embodying the timeless values of compassion, peace, and unity.
