Romina Khurshid Alam Advocates for Disaster Insurance Plans for Vulnerable Communities

Baku: Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, has emphasized the importance of implementing disaster insurance plans for vulnerable communities to enhance resilience against climate-related challenges. Speaking at the “Pakistan and the Global Shield” event, held on the sidelines of the COP29 global climate summit, Alam highlighted the need for integrating disaster risk financing into Pakistan’s broader loss and damage initiatives.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Alam outlined that this integration is vital for building resilience, ensuring timely responses, and supporting long-term recovery efforts. She stressed that governments and global partners can mitigate climate risks, support recovery, and foster resilience by utilizing innovative financial tools alongside inclusive and data-driven strategies. Pakistan has already started efforts to incorporate disaster risk financing into its climate change strategy, underscoring the country’s proactive approach in addressing the impacts of climate change on vulnerable populations.
