Ruptured pipeline repaired; gas supply fully restored

Karachi, May 09, 2016 (PPI-OT):The 20” dia gas pipeline which was damaged on May 7, 2016 during a development work being carried out as part of the Green Line Bus Project was completely repaired on Sunday and all affected areas have been receiving gas supply at normal volumes and pressure. The gas pipeline was badly damaged during a piling work near the Board Office in North Nazimabad.

The concerned SSGC officials had provided the Green Line project team with necessary drawings of the underground pipeline network and demarcated pipeline physically, apart from providing them with the satellite coordinates. Still, the project contractors were carrying out the task over the gas pipelines that eventually caused the rupture and subsequent damage to the line. Due to heavy gas discharge, life and property of the people in surrounding areas were threatened.

Within no time, teams from the Company’s Emergency and Distribution Maintenance Departments rushed to the site and situation was brought under control and as a result major loss of life and property was prevented. SSGC team spent over 35 hours at the site to complete the job successfully in the supervision of SGM (Engineering Services) Fayyaz Merchant and SGM (Distribution-South) Saeed Larik by the stipulated time of 8:00 pm on Sunday May 8, 2016. Within an hour, gas was restored to the affected areas of North Nazimabad, Buffer Zone, Maripur and SITE Industrial Area.

Khalid Rahman, MD, SSGC kept himself in constant touch with the technical teams to monitor the progress of the repair work and also visited the site and inspected the progress of restoration work. During the entire restoration process, the Company’s senior management remained in touch with the technical teams on ground to ensure that the job is completed in time so that the customers do not have to face inconvenience for long.
