SCO Summit in Islamabad to Bolster Regional Ties and Economic Growth

Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar stated today that the upcoming SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in Islamabad is set to enhance regional cooperation and address mutual challenges. Speaking at a media workshop organized by China Media Group, the minister underscored the significance of hosting the summit at a time when Pakistan’s economic indicators are improving.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Tarar highlighted recent economic achievements, including a substantial rise in foreign remittances, which reached $8.8 billion over the past three months, and a 14% increase in IT exports, contributing to an overall growth in the country’s exports. He also noted an increase in the number of tax filers, a testament to the government’s effective reforms.

Furthermore, the minister addressed the regional challenges, particularly the ongoing impact of climate change, emphasizing that despite Pakistan’s minimal contribution to global carbon emissions, it is one of the nations most affected by climate adversities. He advocated for strengthened regional cooperation to tackle these environmental challenges and the residual effects of terrorism, referencing the significant human losses Pakistan has endured in its battle against terrorism.

Minister Tarar also emphasized the importance of cultural exchanges and bolstering people-to-people contacts to enhance regional relationships. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to raising pivotal issues such as Palestine in international forums, reflecting its proactive role in global diplomacy.
