Scope of PECA Bill Limited to Digital Media: Info Minister

Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has stated that the scope of the PECA Amendment Act is confined to digital media and will not have implications for electronic and print media. Addressing the media at the Parliament House this evening, he emphasized that the PECA Amendment Bill is a crucial measure aimed at safeguarding working journalists.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister highlighted that the bill introduces regulations specifically for digital media, while existing laws already govern print and electronic media in the country. Attaullah Tarar pointed out the necessity for establishing rules for digital media as it allows unrestricted communication on various platforms.

The Minister further noted that the government is committed to engaging in dialogue with media organizations, including the Parliamentary Reporters Association, Joint Action Committee, PBA, and APNS. He assured that these bodies are always welcome to engage in discussions regarding the bill.
