Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation Arrives in Pakistan for Key Maritime Conference

Islamabad: The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Arsenio Dominguez, has commenced a historic three-day visit to Pakistan, where he will engage in a series of high-level meetings and participate in a maritime conference and exhibition. The event, hosted by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, marks the first visit of an IMO Secretary-General to the country, highlighting its growing significance in the maritime sector.

According to Press Information Department, the IMO conference will initiate in Islamabad on September 12, before moving to Karachi for sessions on September 13 and 14. The agenda aims to foster discussions on maritime safety, security, and the environmental challenges facing the industry. During his stay, Dominguez is scheduled to meet with key Pakistani figures including the President, the Prime Minister, and the Chief of Naval Staff.

Upon his arrival at Islamabad Airport, Dominguez was greeted by officials from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs among other dignitaries. Qaisar Ahmed Sheikh, the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, expressed his enthusiasm about the visit, stating it as a significant milestone for Pakistan’s maritime industry and extended a warm welcome to the IMO Secretary-General.
