Senate Committee Advances Digital Transformation with New Bill

Islamabad: A pivotal session of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication was convened today at the Parliament House, resulting in the approval of the “Digital National Pakistan Bill, 2025.” The meeting, presided over by Senator Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, saw the bill passed by a majority vote.

According to a statement by Senate of Pakistan, the bill was introduced by Ms. Shaza Famita Khawaja, the Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication, in the Senate on January 24, 2025. The legislation is designed to transform Pakistan into a digitally empowered nation by fostering a dynamic digital society, robust digital economy, and efficient governance.

The committee meeting was attended by several senators, including Kamran Murtaza, Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto, Anusha Rahman Ahmed Khan, Manzoor Ahmed, Syed Kazim Ali Shah, and Saifullah Sarwar Khan Nyazee. Their participation underscores the collaborative effort to advance the country’s digital agenda.
