Senate Committee Reviews Government Assurances on Key Issues

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurances, led by Senator Abdul Shakoor Khan, gathered at the Parliament Lodges to evaluate the progress of various government pledges. The meeting focused on the status of the missing file of a house in Sector I-10/4, Islamabad, and the solarization of agricultural tube wells in Balochistan.

According to a statement by Senate of Pakistan, the inquiry into the missing file was introduced by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed. Officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) explained that the issue is currently before the Civil Court, leaving them unable to act until the case concludes or is withdrawn. An inquiry has been launched against the implicated individuals. Senator Khan criticized the CDA’s failure to detect the file’s legality during previous transfers, only identifying it as fraudulent on the sixth transfer. The committee concluded that the CDA had not fulfilled its assurance nor provided relief to the affected party.

The second assurance discussed was the solarization of agricultural tube wells in Balochistan, initiated by Senator Manzoor Ahmed Kakar. Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) officials reported that the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Balochistan have launched the project, sharing costs in a 70% to 30% ratio. The solarization has commenced, with payments made to farmers in the Pishin District. The committee expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress and closed the matter.

The meeting included various senators and senior officials such as Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs Humaira Ahmed, Special Secretary for National Health Services Nasiruddin Mashhood Ahmad Mirza, and others from relevant departments.
