Senate Continues Debate on 27th Amendment Bill 2025

Islamabad: The Senate today held a detailed discussion on ‘The Constitution (Twenty-seventh Amendment) Bill, 2025’. Taking part in the debate, Talha Mehmood described the amendment as essential for reforming the judicial system in Pakistan and strengthening the country’s defense. He highlighted the necessity of a federal constitutional court to address constitutional matters and resolve issues between the federation and provinces.

According to Radio Pakistan, Syed Masroor Ahsan stressed the importance of having a productive discussion to benefit the country, democracy, and the constitution. Dr. Afnan Ullah Khan criticized the opposition for fostering division in the nation. Sarmad Ali noted that the establishment of a federal constitutional court was an agreed point in the Charter of Democracy, suggesting the amendment is a move towards an independent and impartial judiciary.

Danesh Kumar praised the government for introducing the bill in the Senate first and advocated for increased representation of minorities. Meanwhile, Azam Swati and Mohsin Aziz advised against rushing the bill’s passage. Senators Ali Zafar and Hamid Khan expressed opposition to the amendment.

Other contributors to the debate included Faisal Javed, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Saifullah Abro, Naseema Ehsan, and Dr. Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur. The House is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow at eleven in the morning.
