Senator Rubina Khalid Sets New Standards for BISP Transparency

Islamabad: Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, engaged in a pivotal discussion with BISP staff and officers today at the program’s headquarters. The meeting focused on addressing staff observations, challenges, and suggestions to enhance the efficiency of field operations during the distribution of the Kafaalat quarterly stipends to deserving women across the nation.

According to a statement by Press Information Department, Senator Khalid emphasized the importance of transparent and respectful fund distribution. She highlighted her directive from President Asif Ali Zardari to ensure that the assistance reaches the rightful recipients without any misconduct. In a significant move to improve transparency, she announced an impending pilot phase to open bank accounts for the beneficiaries, which will facilitate direct transfers of funds and reduce the risk of unauthorized deductions.

Senator Khalid urged the BISP staff to uphold the dignity of beneficiaries by providing necessary facilities at payment centers and preventing overcrowding. She stressed the need for a seamless distribution process and called for strict measures against corrupt practices. The Director of Field Operations, Adnan Al Hassan, briefed her on the current distribution mechanisms, prompting her to demand the development of strategies to address the challenges faced by the staff and beneficiaries alike.

Senator Khalid’s meeting marks a step forward in ensuring that the BISP operates with integrity and effectiveness, with the forthcoming banking initiative poised to further enhance the program’s transparency and accountability.
