Shipbuilding Industry Being Modernized Through Transformative Measures

Karachi: Pakistan’s shipbuilding industry is being modernized through transformative measures launched under the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Reforms. Karachi Shipyard has been assigned the central role in commercial shipbuilding and will construct commercial vessels for the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC).

According to Radio Pakistan, efforts have been accelerated to establish joint ventures with international shipyards. It has been decided that domestic shipbuilding orders will be awarded to the national shipyard. This approach aims to reduce reliance on foreign shipyards, thereby saving valuable foreign exchange. Additionally, revitalizing the national shipyard is expected to create new employment opportunities for engineers and skilled workers.

Directives have been issued to standardize the quality of harbour craft across the country. Experts indicate that Pakistan has strong potential to become a regional shipbuilding hub.
