SIFC considers setting up Pharma Economic Zone

Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) is considering setting up a Pharma Economic Zone to promote medical tourism and attract investment in the pharmaceutical industry.

Pakistan is already working on establishing Special Economic Zones under CPEC. One of these will be reserved for the pharma industry.

The Ministry of Health has been asked to prepare an immediate action plan to finalize the project after the pre-feasibility study.

The initiative is aimed at attracting foreign investment including from China in the pharma industry.

The government is also working on a proposal to deregulate the prices of medical products to attract investment in the pharma industry.
