Sindh High Court Demands Transparency Report on Karachi Road Contracts

Karachi: The Sindh High Court has called for a report from the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) and other related authorities concerning the transparency of the road contract award process. This move comes after allegations surfaced about the improper awarding of road projects following extensive rainfall damage in August 2023.

According to Zameen.Com, the court issued notices to KMC among other entities in response to a petition highlighting potential irregularities in the allocation of 41 road restoration schemes. These projects were reportedly granted without the mandatory public notice, often favoring certain companies, raising questions about the fairness of the contract distribution process.

During the proceedings, the court expressed concerns regarding how the petitioner accessed confidential government documents, suggesting further legal scrutiny might be necessary. The petitioner’s counsel promised to address these concerns about document procurement in subsequent discussions.

With a deadline set for a response within ten days, the court’s request for a detailed report on the projects aims to ensure greater accountability and integrity within local development initiatives.
