Sindh Welcomes New Era with Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Karachi: The Sindh government has announced the establishment of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the province, a move it describes as a significant advancement in the region’s energy sector. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sindh’s Minister for Energy, Planning, and Development, lauded Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Chairman of Malik Group, for spearheading the initiative. The minister highlighted the ongoing supply of affordable electricity from the Nooriabad Power Plant and solar parks, while expressing concerns over K-Electric’s stance on fossil fuel prices.

Malik Khuda Bakhsh praised the federal and provincial governments for their efforts in setting up EV manufacturing plants and charging infrastructure. He stated that these steps are pivotal for addressing the energy crisis and advancing economic growth. The initiative is set to make significant strides in environmental protection and technological independence.

During the FPCCI Energy Committee meeting, Shah emphasized that the Sindh government will not levy taxes on solar energy, recognizing it as a crucial sustainable energy source. He reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving energy self-sufficiency through natural resources like wind, solar, and Thar coal.

Malik Khuda Bakhsh announced the arrival of the first shipment for EV manufacturing and charging equipment in Karachi. With cooperation from China’s ADN Group, $240 million will be invested in setting up EV manufacturing and charging facilities across Pakistan, including 3,000 charging stations nationwide.

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab identified three initial locations for EV equipment installation, including KMC Head Office, Water Board Parking on Shahrah-e-Faisal, and Dolmen Mall Clifton Parking. The Sindh government plans to expand EV stations to additional cities in the province.

The initiative underscores Pakistan’s growing appeal to foreign investors and marks a step towards economic stability.
