Situation in Libya – Foreign office establishes a Crisis Management Cell

Islamabad, August 06, 2014 (PPI-OT): Security situation in Libya has deteriorated over the past few days. Pakistan Embassy at Tripoli is assisting stranded Pakistanis to evacuate. Embassy in the last few days has already facilitated evacuation of over 2500 Pakistanis to Tunisia.

As directed by the Prime Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating the efforts to facilitate evacuation of stranded Pakistanis in Libya. To monitor the evolving security situation in Libya and to coordinate efforts for evacuation of Pakistani Diaspora, a Crisis Management Cell (CMC), has been established at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad.

The CMC headed by a Director General and assisted by two Directors, will operate round the clock w.e.f. afternoon of 7 August 2014.

All Pakistan Missions in the region have been advised to make concerted efforts to assist Pakistanis evacuation from Libya through their respective areas of jurisdiction.

Pakistan Embassy at Tunisia has also set up a Camp Office at Zarzis near Ras-Jedir Check Post on Libya-Tunisia border to assist transiting Pakistanis. A senior officer from the Ministry is also being sent on a special assignment to strengthen the Embassy efforts.
