Islamabad, March 24, 2013 (PPI-OT): A World Bank Mission comprises of Ms.Yoonyoung Cho, Economist, WB Washington DC and Ms.Shirin Sadozai, Consultant on Skills and Entrepreneurship Development of World Bank visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).
The World Bank Mission said that Pakistan has a lot of potential to benefit from Human Resource Development in various sectors, therefore, World Bank’s program of Skill Development and Market Linkages was focusing on national vocational and training system which is responsive to labor market needs and that provides Pakistan’s labor force with the knowledge and skills for decent work.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Zafar Bakhtawari, President ICCI said that professional and skilled youth is future of Pakistan and collective efforts of public and private sector are required to converge the unexplored talent of youth to specialized human resources.
Mr.Bakhtawari said that economic empowerment of Pakistani women is also necessary along with their political empowerment. He suggested that there should be proper institutes for women to get training of certified beautician courses as well as training should also given in the fields of pharmacy and cosmetic sales. These initiatives would definitely encourage women to enter in the productive labor force and contribute positively in the economic development of the country.
He also highlighted the dire need of producing skilled human resource as per requirements of industries and expressed concern that there is no unique portal which has data of skilled labor force in Pakistan. Thus, World Bank mission should also work on this area to prepare a complete database of skilled labor force in Pakistan.
ICCI President said that labor force must have proper certification by institutions as per international standards adding that post training evaluation programs must also be conducted for monitoring the outcome from such training secessions.
He was of the view that the supply of perfectly skilled labor to industries could trigger the industrial growth rate without doing heavy capital investment. He said that Pakistan’s vocational training institutes should address skill development needs of workers and develop programs for their skill enhancement in line with international standards because types of skills demanded in the international job market are also changing rapidly.
