Solar Panels Installed at KMC Head Office to Reduce Electricity Costs

Karachi: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has installed solar panels on the roof of its head office under the direction of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab. The project aims to generate electricity through solar energy, with the installation of 259 solar plates expected to produce 650 to 700 units of electricity daily.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the installation of solar panels, inverters, structures, and wiring is being completed at a cost of 20 million rupees. The project will meet 30% of the KMC building’s daily electricity requirement, which is estimated to be around 400 kilowatts. The solar energy system currently has a capacity of 150 kilowatts and will be gradually increased. Additionally, the system is being connected to the K-Electric grid, allowing KMC to sell excess electricity generated during holidays.

The KMC has obtained a license from NEPRA for the solar installation, and the private company responsible for the project has previously completed similar work at the Kidney Hill site. Mayor Wahab has also announced plans to extend solar energy systems to three more KMC buildings.
