Special Committee of National Assembly on Pakistan International Airlines meets

Islamabad, January 04, 2016 (PPI-OT): The meeting of the Special Committee of the National Assembly on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was held today in the Parliament House, to elect its Chairman. Two candidates contested for the Chairmanship of the Special Committee; Mr. Zahid Hamid and Syed Naveed Qamar, MNAs. Mr. Zahid Hamid, MNA/ Minister for Climate Change and Human Rights has scored more votes than Syed Naveed Qamar, MNA and was declared as the Chairman of the Special Committee.

Newly elected Chairman expressed his gratitude to the Committee Members for reposing confidence in him and assured that he would do his best for the achievement of the objectives of this Committee. Congratulating the newly elected Chairman, Members of the Committee from all Political Parties as well as Independent Members extended their full cooperation in completing this crucial task.

The Special Committee discussed various legal as well as factual aspects of the functions of the Committee and decided to hold its next meeting on the following agenda:-

i) Briefing by Chairman PIAC on performance of PIA.

ii) Briefing by Chairman, Privatization Commission on performance of PIA.

Abdul Qadir Baloch, Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Mr. Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Deputy Speaker, National Assembly, Ms. Anusha Rehman Khan Advocate, Minister for Information, Technology and Telecommunications, Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, Parliamentary Secretary for Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Privatization, Raja Muhammad Javed Ikhlas, Parliamentary Secretary for Cabinet Secretariat, Syed Naveed Qamar, MNA, Mr. Asad Umar, MNA, Mr. Iqbal Muhammad Ali Khan, MNA, Sahibzada Tariq Ullah, MNA, Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, MNA, Ms. Shaista Pervaiz, MNA, Syed Ghazi Gulab Jamal, MNA, and Mr. Muhammad Ijaz-ul-Haq, MNA attended the meeting.
