Spurious Liquor Claims 25 Lives in Bihar, 12 Arrested in Connection with Hooch Tragedy

Patna: At least 25 people have died in the districts of Siwan and Saran in Bihar after consuming spurious liquor, marking one of the deadliest incidents in the state since Bihar imposed prohibition in 2016.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Bihar’s top police official, Alok Raj, confirmed that Siwan accounted for 20 of the fatalities, while five deaths were reported from Saran. In connection with the tragedy, 12 individuals have been arrested for their involvement in selling the tainted liquor.

“Two Special Investigation Teams have been established following the incident,” Raj said. “One team, at the local level, will focus on investigating the criminal activities surrounding this particular episode. Another team, formed by the Department of Prohibition, will conduct a comprehensive review of similar incidents that have occurred recently,” he added.
