LAHORE: The Standing Committee on Railways conducted its fourth meeting and visit in Lahore to discuss critical operational and infrastructural issues facing Pakistan Railways. Chaired by Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan, MNA, the meeting took place in the Committee Rooms of the Divisional Superintendent, Pakistan Railways, and the Workshops Division Mughalpura. The committee gathered to deliberate on various aspects, including punctuality, land encroachments, and infrastructure improvements.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the session began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a comprehensive briefing from the Divisional Superintendent, Pakistan Railways, Lahore. The briefing covered topics such as the organizational structure, human resources, jurisdiction, track length, and station numbers. It also addressed closed sections, punctuality issues, commercial earnings, land lease revenues, encroachment removals, and infrastructure enhancements.
During the meeting, punctuality was highlighted as a significant concern by the Committee Chairman. The Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Railways acknowledged the issue and assured efforts towards improvement. The committee urged the Ministry to prioritize punctuality of trains. Additionally, the committee discussed anti-encroachment operations and recommended strict actions against commercial land encroachers.
