Syed Ali Gilani again put under house arrest

Srinagar, November 17, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have again placed the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, under house arrest.

The spokesman of Syed Ali Gilani’s forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the authorities had taken the action to prevent the veteran leader from addressing a public gathering in Palhallan area of Pattan, today. He said that a huge posse of Indian police cordoned off Syed Ali Gilani’s residence and informed him that he could not move out. He said that Palhallan rally had been deferred due to the restrictions imposed on the veteran leader.

The spokesman termed the house detention of the veteran Hurriyet leader as illegal and unjustified. He said that participation of thousands of people in the rallies of Syed Ali Gilani in Sopore, Shopian, Kupwara and Pulwama areas had unnerved the occupation authorities. He said that these rallies also showed that the authorities had forced the people to remain silent at gun point.

The spokesman said that the puppet authorities could not face Syed Ali Gilani politically and they were using undemocratic and cruel tactics to confine him inside the walls of his house. He said that martial law was virtually in vogue in the territory and aspirations of the people were being suppressed by force. He demanded lifting of curbs on the movement of the veteran leader.

Pertinently, Syed Ali Gilani was released on October 29 this year after his continued house arrest since March, this year.
