Talal Criticizes KP’s Rejection of Bulletproof Vehicles Amid Terrorism Concerns

Islamabad: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has expressed regret over the decision of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to reject bulletproof vehicles provided by the Federal Government for the province’s police force in its fight against terrorism. In a recent video statement, Chaudhry highlighted the Federal Government’s initiative to bolster the operational capacity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s police officers through the deployment of these vehicles.

According to Radio Pakistan, the vehicles, which meet international standards, were dispatched to the Inspector General of Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and are strongly recommended for use in high-risk and counter-terrorism operations. Chaudhry recalled that the Federal Government had previously allocated over six hundred billion rupees to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. This funding was intended for the development of safe cities, the establishment of a counter-terrorism department, creation of forensic laboratories, and other essential infrastructure aimed at combating terrorism. He pointed out the irony in the current situation, where police officers and officials in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are left vulnerable to terrorist threats.

Chaudhry further questioned the utilization of the substantial funds provided, as the rejection of the vehicles appears to counter efforts to enhance the safety and effectiveness of the police force. He condemned the decision to return the bulletproof vehicles, which were intended to safeguard police personnel, describing it as immature, unfortunate, and deeply regrettable.

Despite the setback, Chaudhry reassured that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in its fight against terrorism. The government promises to continue providing all possible assistance to the province as it endeavors to eliminate terrorism from the country.
