Two Muslim Youths Killed by Police in Assam During Protest

Guwahati: In a tragic incident, Indian police fatally shot two Muslim youths and wounded several others during a protest in Assam. The demonstration was against what participants described as anti-Muslim policies by the BJP government in the state.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the confrontation occurred near Guwahati where police opened fire on Bengali-speaking Muslim protesters. The deceased have been identified as 19-year-old Zubair Ali and 22-year-old Haidar Ali. Additionally, eleven other protesters sustained injuries during the incident.

Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, leader of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), condemned the killings, labeling them as inhuman. He highlighted that the victims were from a homeless villager background. This event echoes a similar occurrence from September 2021 when two Bengali-speaking Muslims were killed during an eviction drive in North Assam’s Darrang district.
