UAPA Tribunal Upholds Five-Year Ban on JKLF

New Delhi: The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act tribunal has upheld a ban on the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), which is led by the currently detained Muhammad Yasin Malik. This decision, presided over by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna of the Delhi High Court, reaffirms the status of the JKLF as an unlawful association.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the tribunal, dealing with matters under the UAPA and chaired by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, supported the Indian Home Ministry’s decision to extend the prohibition on the JKLF for another five years, as initially decreed on March 15, 2024.

The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs cites concerns over public order as the basis for this sustained legal stance against the JKLF, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining peace and security in the region. This decision reflects ongoing efforts to address separatist movements and their implications on national security.
