UN Celebrates Pakistani Contributions to Global Peace Efforts

Islamabad: During a ceremony marking UN Police Day, Pakistan’s significant contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions were highlighted by Munir Akram, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations. The event celebrated the professionalism and dedication of Pakistani police personnel serving under the UN banner, with particular recognition given to the historical and ongoing impact of their efforts on global peace initiatives.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Akram detailed Pakistan’s extensive involvement in UN missions, noting that the nation has deployed 230,000 troops across 46 peacekeeping operations over the years. He spotlighted the landmark achievement of Pakistani Police woman Shahzadi Gulfam, who in 2011 became the first recipient of the International Female Police Keeper Award.

The ceremony also featured remarks from Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, who acknowledged Pakistan’s critical role in maintaining global peace. Lacroix emphasized the need to enhance police capabilities to address contemporary challenges effectively.

Munir Akram reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue playing a pivotal role in strengthening UN peacekeeping capabilities, underscoring the country’s dedication to international peace and security.
