UN Endorses Pakistan’s Resolution on Self-Determination

New York: The United Nations General Assembly has approved a resolution put forth by Pakistan, reaffirming the international community’s commitment to the principle of self-determination for peoples under colonial, foreign, and alien occupation. The resolution was adopted without a vote and saw the support of 65 co-sponsoring countries.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram, submitted the resolution, which has been sponsored by Pakistan annually since 1981. The resolution seeks to draw global attention to the ongoing struggles of peoples, such as those in Palestine and Kashmir, in their pursuit of self-determination.

The resolution also calls on responsible states to immediately cease military interventions and occupations in foreign territories, emphasizing the urgent need to uphold the rights of those seeking self-determination.
