UNDP and Pakistan Forge Path for Sustainable Development

Islamabad: The Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, engaged in a meeting today with Dr. Samuel Rizk, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Pakistan. The discussions centered on enhancing collaborative efforts in various sectors crucial for Pakistan’s development, including social development, climate resiliency, and energy transition.

According to a statement by Press Information Department, Dr. Rizk shared insights into the UNDP’s ongoing projects, emphasizing their role in driving sustainable development and increasing climate change resilience in Pakistan. He outlined initiatives spanning digital transformation and public sector efficiency, which aim to support the country’s socio-economic progress.

Senator Aurangzeb highlighted the necessity for projects that are well-structured and align with international standards, stressing the importance of transparency and alignment with national development goals. The minister expressed gratitude for the UNDP’s technical and financial support in priority sectors and reiterated the government’s focus on addressing challenges such as population growth, stunting, and climate change.

The meeting also touched upon Pakistan’s recently signed 10-year partnership with the World Bank, which seeks to promote inclusive growth by building human capital and enhancing economic resilience. Senator Aurangzeb noted that this partnership would complement the UNDP’s efforts and support the government’s long-term objectives.

Both parties committed to ongoing collaboration to tackle development challenges, particularly in climate change, social development, and public sector efficiency.
