UNICEF vows to protect Pakistani children from climate change impacts

UNICEF has vowed to continue working closely with Pakistan for protecting children from adverse impacts of climate change-induced disasters.

The resolve was expressed during meeting between Country Representative of UNICEF in Pakistan, Abdullah A. Fadil and Coordinator to Prime Minister on Climate Change Romina Khurshid Alam in Islamabad today.

On the occasion, Romina Khurshid highlighted that children of Pakistan are increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, as floods, heat waves, droughts, glacial lake outburst floods and shifting rainfall patterns threaten their health, education, and overall well-being.

She said addressing climate vulnerability among children is not possible without targeted interventions particularly in health, education, water and sanitation sections.

Romina Khurshid emphasized investing in healthcare infrastructure and services to address climate-induced health challenges, building resilient educational facilities and implementing strategies to ensure that children’
s education is not disrupted by climate events.

The UNICEF representative assured the Prime Minister’s Coordinator of the Fund’s all-out support to the government’s efforts for tackling climate vulnerability among children.
